2019 Emmy nominations: Beyonce, Game of Thrones, Fleabag, Russian Doll, more

The nominees for the 71st Emmy Awards have been announced and leading the way was Game of Thrones, which got a record-breaking 32 nominations. Also doing well this year were Fleabag, The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, Killing Eve, Veep, Barry, Chernobyl, Sharp Objects, Schitt’s Creek, and more. Some nice surprises, too: Natasha Lyonne‘s Netflix series Russian Doll was nominated for best Comedy (as was Natasha for Best Actress in a comedy); HBO’s dark, satirical series Succession got nominated for Best Drama, Deadwood: The Movie and Black Mirror: Bandersnatch got nominated for Best Television Movie, and Kumail Nanjiani got nominated for Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his appearance in The Twilight Zone.

Beyonce didn’t do too bad either, with six nominations for her Homecoming Netflix special, including Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded), Outstanding Music Direction, Outstanding Directing, Outstanding Writing, Outstanding Production Design, and Outstanding Costumes For Variety.

Outstanding Music for A Limited Series, Movie or Special nominees were: Hildur Guðnadóttir for Chernobyl, Edward Shearmur for Escape at Dannemora, David Arnold for Good Omens, T Bone Burnett and Keefus Ciancia for True Detective, and Kris Bowers for When They See Us.

Outstanding Original Main Theme Music nominees were Thomas Newman for Castle Rock; Rachel Bloom, Jack Dolgen and Adam Schlesinger for Crazy Ex Girlfriend, David Arnold for Good Omens; Steven Price for Our Planet; and Nicholas Britell for Succession.

Outstanding Music Supervision nominees were Better Call Saul (Thomas Golubić), Fosse/Verdon (Steven Gizicki), Quincy (Jasper Leak), Russian Doll (Brienne Rose), and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Robin Urdang, Amy Sherman-Palladino, Daniel Palladino).
