Miley Cyrus Ashley O

21 New Songs Out Today

ASHLEY O (MILEY CYRUS) – “ON A ROLL” (NINE INCH NAILS’ “HEAD LIKE A HOLE” SORT OF)

As you have probably heard, Miley Cyrus plays troubled pop star Ashley O in one of the new Black Mirror episodes, and her signature song is “On A Roll,” a reworking of Nine Inch Nails’ “Head Like A Hole” with different lyrics (for which Trent Reznor gave his blessing). Now you can (legally) hear the full song outside of the episode, thanks to the release of the music video that is glimpsed at in the episode. Do you think it’s better than Nine Inch Nails’ version?

THE FAMILY DAPTONE (SHARON JONES, CHARLES BRADLEY, LEE FIELDS, MORE) – “HEY BROTHER (DO UNTO OTHERS)”

Daptone Records just released its 100th 45, an all-star jam attributed to The Family Daptone and featuring the late Sharon Jones, Charles Bradley, and Dan Klein of the Frightnrs as well as James Hunter, Lee Fields, Naomi Shelton, Saun & Starr, and Duke Amayo of Antibalas. The song was originally on the Frightnrs’ album Nothing More to Say and then the label hit on the idea of turning into a special release that is now a tribute Jones, Bradley, Klein and Cliff Driver. (Bradley and Jones cut their vocals before they died in 2016 and 2017, respectively.) “Everybody seemed to really love the idea of being together on a record like that,” Daptone’s Gabriel Roth told Billboard, “Every one of those singers that I asked, after I explained what we were trying to do, they really jumped through hoops to try to make it happen.”

FREDDIE GIBBS & MADLIB – “GIANNIS” (ft. ANDERSON. PAAK)

Freddie Gibbs and Madlib’s highly anticipated collaborative album Bandana comes out June 28, and today they’ve shared another song frmo it, “Giannis.” This would already be one of the most instantly appealing songs released from the album so far thanks to Freddie and Madlib alone, but the Anderson .Paak guest appearance is the icing on the cake.

STURGILL SIMPSON – “THE DEAD DON’T DIE”

Jim Jarmusch’s new zombie movie with an all-star cast, The Dead Don’t Die, hits theaters tomorrow (6/14), but its theme song, a new country tune from Sturgill Simpson, is here now.

HERE LIES MAN – “CLAD IN SILVER”

Antibalas-related band Here Lies Man aim to answer the question “what if Black Sabbath played Afrobeat?” and they’re now gearing up to release the seven-song mini album No Ground To Walk Upon on August 16 via RidingEasy Records. The first single is the fuzzed-out, trippy “Clad In Silver.”

SLEEP EATERS – “BAD LOVE”

UK band Sleep Eaters formed out of the ashes of London acts Whistlejacket and Puffer, and have a swaggering, louche, loungey sound that should appeal to fans of Nick Cave and Tindersticks. Their debut EP, Holy Days, which they made with Euan Hinshelwood of Younghusband, is out August 9 via PNKSLM.

MARIKA HACKMAN – “THE ONE”

Marika Hackman calls her new single “probably the poppiest song I’ve ever written. I loved the idea of inhabiting this ridiculous arrogant rock star character who has totally fucked their career by writing too many sad songs.” Marika’s new album, Any Human Friend, is out August 9 via Sub Pop.

JULIEN BAKER – “RED DOOR” & “CONVERSATION PIECE”

Julien Baker’s Record Store Day 2019 exclusive 7″ got an official release, and with it the studio versions of two previously released songs. Julien has been performing “Red Door” live since before the release of her sophomore album Turn Out the Lights, while “Conversation Piece” is an unreleased track from those sessions. The studio versions of both might be the fullest-sounding things she’s released yet, with strings, piano, and drums joining guitar.

JESSE MALIN – “STRANGERS & THIEVES” (ft. BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG)

NYC punk icon Jesse Malin has a new Lucinda Williams-produced album on the way, and the latest single is a jangly tune co-written by Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong and featuring vocals by him too.

HARRY AND THE POTTERS – “WHERE’S RON?” (ft. KIMYA DAWSON)

Harry and The Potters are back with Lumos, their first album in 13 years, due out June 21. Its songs focus on the events of Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows, and “Where’s Ron,” which builds to a majestic climax worthy of Meatloaf, manages to work in the muffliato charm AND features Kimya Dawson as Hermione Granger. The video is from Potter Puppet Pals, and includes a piano-playing Snape.

DJ SNAKE – “LOCO CONTIGO” (ft. J BALVIN & TYGA)

DJ Snake goes full Latin pop with his new single “Loco Contigo,” and who better to bring along for the ride than reggaeton star J Balvin? The song comes with a very colorful, very expensive looking video that stars Snake, Balvin, and Tyga in the desert with luxury cars and outlandish props.

DREAMVILLE – “DOWN BAD” (ft. J COLE, JID, BAS, EARTHGANG & YOUNG NUDY) & “GOT ME” (ft. TY DOLLA $IGN, ARI LENNOX, DREEZY, OMEN)

J Cole’s label Dreamville is releasing the Revenge of the Dreamers III compilation this year, and two new songs from it are out now. For head-nodding hip hop with dizzying, classic-style bars there’s “Down Bad,” and for an R&B slow jam there’s “Got Me.”

TELETHON – “WANDERPARTY”

Telethon have shared another song from their upcoming album Hard Pop, and this one pairs synthy pop punk a la The Get Up Kids and Motion City Soundtrack with… ska! Ska-punk continues to make a comeback and there’s nothing you can do about it.

KIM PETRAS – “PERSONAL HELL”

Kim Petras, who is one of many guests on Charli XCX’s newly announced album, released another single of her own today, and announced Clarity, a new 12-track project due out June 27 that will collect many of her recent releases. “This project is all about finding myself,” she says. “It started with ‘Broken’ and will end with Clarity because it reflects my personal journey over the last two years. In writing my new music, I’ve learnt that a lot of the little things that go wrong in life don’t really matter at the end of the day. If anything, I’m now a stronger person because of them.”

OUTSIDER – “LIFE RUNS OUT”

Richmond metallic hardcore crew Outsider put out a buzzed-about demo last year, and now they’re set to release the When Love Dies EP on August 2 via Flatspot Records. The first/single opening track is “Life Runs Out,” which pairs chugging hardcore with flashy metal solos and totally rips.

DIOCLETIAN – “REPEL THE ATTACK”

New Zealand’s Diocletian are releasing the new album Amongst The Flames Of A Burning God on August 16 via Profound Lore, and lead single “Repel The Attack” is a brutual, dissonant, grindy death metal attack.

KING PRINCESS – “USELESS PHRASES”

King Princess announced her debut album in April with the release of the very catchy “Cheap Queen”, and today she follows it with a new interlude, “Useless Phrases.”
