Alex Cameron announces new album, shares "Divorce," expands tour
Alex Cameron will be back with new album Miami Memory on September 13 via Secretly Canadian. Recorded with producer Jonathan Rado, it’s Cameron’s least synthy, most direct album yet. “When you listen to these songs, and you’re waiting for the twist, or the joke, or any kind of discomfort, I can assure you none of those things were there when I wrote them,” says Cameron. “These are true stories, of actual events. Specific but never esoteric. And graphic but never offensive. Miami Memory is the story of a couple balancing sex with contemporary family values…It’s my gift to my girlfriend, a symbol to hoist on the totem of love.” (The girlfriend in question is his frequent video co-star Jemima Kirke of Girls.) You may have already heard the title track and the new single is the Bob Seger-esque “Divorce” which, even if he’s dropped the irony and is aiming straight for the heart this time, still features a chorus of “I’ve got friends in Kansas City with a motherfuckin’ pullpout couch!” that could’ve only come from Cameron. Right after the album drops, Alex and saxophonist/business partner Roy Molloy will be on the road with UK/EU dates in September and October, and North American dates starting in November including a stop at NYC’s Webster Hall on 11/22 (tickets). He’s just announced more shows to that tour, including ones in Atlanta, Nashville, St. Louis, Minneapolis, Detroit, Montreal, Philadelphia, Boston, DC, Denver, Portland, Seattle, Vancouver and more.
