Fruit Bats

Fruit Bats are set to release their fourth LP Tripper on August 2 via Sub Pop. The album was recorded at WACS Studio in LA with Thom Monahan, who produced the last four Vetiver albums. According to to Sub Pop’s site:

“For the first week of recording, [Eric D.] Johnson brought in a full band–Sam Wagster, Ron Lewis and Graeme Gibson–to capture some of the live excitement of the previous Fruit Bats album, 2009’s The Ruminant Band. However, having recently worked alone on soundtracks for an extended period, Johnson knew that he wanted Tripper to be more of a solitary pursuit than his previous album. For the remaining four weeks, he worked with Monahan to deepen and refine the sound.”

Grab the single “Tangie & Ray” above, along with a bunch of older track and the recently recorded non-album track “WACS” (aka the studio Tripper was recorded in) which is a collaboration with their Sub Pop labelmate J Mascis.

In addition to sharing a producer, Fruit Bats and Vetiver are also Sub Pop labelmates, have difficult band names to Wikipedia for (Fruit Bats, Vetiver) and Fruit Bat Eric D. Johnson was a sideman in Vetiver. They also play a NYC together on September 13 at Bowery Ballroom. Tickets go on sale Friday (7/8) at noon. Fruit Bats have other upcoming dates throughout the summer, but no full tour announcement yet. What is announced is listed below.

Meanwhile Vetiver, whose last NYC show was at Mercury Lounge, play the Bell House with Yellowbirds and Meg Baird on July 10th. Tickets are still on sale.
