To quickly recap, Brooklyn black metal band Liturgy put out Aesthethica, their best-received album yet, in 2011. Not long after, their not-so-secret weapon Greg Fox (drummer) left the band. They then began playing as a duo with a drum machine (also without bassist Tyler Dusenbury), and this past summer, they regrouped as a full band. Now they’re finally ready to release the follow-up to Aesthethica, The Ark Work (due 3/24 via Thrill Jockey), and first single “Quetzalcoatl” has them abandoning black metal, using entirely clean singing and sounding closer to dark industrial rock.
