Guster Look Alive

stream Guster's new album 'Look Alive'

Boston alt-rock vets Guster are returning this week with their eighth album and first in four years, Look Alive, due Friday (1/18) via Nettwerk/Ocho Mule (pre-order). Drummer Brian Rosenworcel says, “This record’s all over the place, hopefully in a good way. I don’t think we’ve ever been more unpredictable as a band than we are right now.” I’d say that’s pretty on point. The album moves from soaring, M83-ish arena rock, to whimsical Beatles/Kinks pop, to out-there electronics, to calming indie rock, and beyond. It never stays in the same place for long, and sometimes it goes into really surprising territory, but Guster always manage to land back on something that feels familiar. A full stream of the album premieres below.

Guster also have a bunch of tour dates and other appearances coming up, including two unique, release-week events in NYC this week. They’ll be the musical guest at actors Connor Ratliff (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Orange Is The New Black, Search Party) and Michael Cruz Kayne‘s (Billy On The Street) sold-out improv show at UCBT East Village TONIGHT (1/15), and they’ll be at The Strand’s Rare Book Room on Friday (1/18) for an evening of acoustic performances and conversation, moderated by Ted Allen (Chopped, Queer Eye). Tickets for the Strand event are on sale.

Their tour brings them back to NYC for a sold-out show at Beacon Theatre on March 16, which is a double bill with fellow alt-rock lifers Nada Surf. Guster are also playing Boston Calling. All dates are listed below.
