Grouper

What's going on Monday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Grouper, Jefre Cantu-Ledesma @ The Park Church Co-Op
The brilliant grouper returned this year with Grid of Points, a piano and vocal-based album that’s a bit more “traditional” for her standards (but not for most people’s standards). Having recently played Brooklyn’s Murmrr Theatre and Basilica Soundscape, Grouper plays a second Brooklyn show tonight.

The The, X O R D O X (Foetus / JG Thirlwell) @ Beacon Theatre
Matt Johnson, sporting a seriously talented new lineup fo the band, brings The The back to NYC for their first shows here in 16 years. Setlists are heavy on Dusk but they’re playing songs from throughout the band’s catalog. Tonight’s show is with X O R D O X (aka Matt’s old pal Jim Thirlwell of Foetus).

MC50, Detroit Cobras, The Last Throes @ Irving Plaza
Wayne Kramer celebrates the 50th anniversary of his classic proto-punk band MC5 with an assembled supergroup, MC50, that includes Kim Thayil (Soundgarden), drummer Brendan Canty (Fugazi), bassist Dug Pinnick (King’s X), and frontman Marcus Durant (Zen Guerrilla).

David Byrne, Tune-Yards @ Kings Theatre
David Byrne’s acclaimed “untethered” tour wraps up its three-show hometown run. It’s his most ambitious tour since Stop Making Sense, and there are plenty of Talking Heads songs in the set.

Mary Halvorson, Bill Frisell, Robbie Lee @ Le Poisson Rouge
Mary Halvorson celebrates the release of two new albums tonight — Seed Triangular (New Amsterdam Records) which she made with Robbie Lee and The Maid with the Flaxen Hair—A Tribute to Johnny Smith which she made with Bill Frisell — with both of her collaborators.

Butterboy Comedy @ Littlefield
Maeve Higgins and Jo Firestone are your Butterboy hosts tonight, with guests Sara Schaefer (@Midnight, Nikki & Sara Live), Ramy Youssef (Late Show With Stephen Colbert), Danielle Perez (2018 Standup Nbc Semifinalist), Caitlin Peluffo (San Fransisco Sketchfest), Gary Anderson (Gotham Comedy Live), and Patrick Hastie (Out Of Bounds Comedy Festival).

Thank God It’s Funny @ Davenport Theatre
Brandon Collins (MTV, CollegeHumor) hosts this brand-new stand up showcase, which starts out with a bang with a great lineup, including Dan Soder (Showtime’s “Billions”), Liz Miele (Hulu), Jon Laster (NBC’s “Stand-Up for Diversity”) and Gibran Saleem (Comedy Cellar).
